I posted pictures of our homeschool room shortly after we moved into our new home. I’ve been updating it over the last couple years. Mostly, it looks more lived-in 🙂 I went with an Aqua and Red color scheme. It looked like this for exactly sixty seconds while I got these shots. It’s usually even more lived-in looking.
The little white table used to be an oak nightstand. It got a coat of paint and some new handles. I painted the frame of an old bulletin board white and stuck some wrapping paper on it.
I’ve talked before about this whiteboard my husband made me. He’s a keeper. Because I still get emails asking about this, even though I stated it in the original post, these are Ikea Expedit shelves. I got the red and turquoise boxes at Target. Here are some similar ones for under six bucks. The white boxes and magazine files are from Ikea. Even with all these shelves, I ran out of room for books. The bookends on top are sconces that I painted and turned upside down.
This is my favorite part of the room. I made silhouettes of each girl.
The printed butterfly chairs are nice for when we don’t feel like sitting at a desk. I got them at Kohl’s on clearance a couple years ago. There are cute ones on Amazon, but they’re pricey. Here’s a lower priced version, they start at $20: Lucky Bums Youth Moon Camp Chair
This clip is handy for when we are using our maps. I got it on Amazon here: Advantus Grip-A-Strip Display Rail In this photo, you can see our little iphone dock/CD player. One of our comfy chairs is right next to it and it’s a nice little spot to listen to books on CD, or our foriegn language CD’s. We also have our morning mingle here, and play our worship songs.
Just above my map slider thingie, I have 2 push pins. This is so I can hang my pocket chart when we’re using it.
Here is what it looks like when I hang the pocket chart. We use it for grammar, trivia games, poetry, and scripture memory.
I made the valances. Don’t look too close, I’m a terrible seamstress. There may have been some masking tape involved. And they’ve been hanging for two years now, without falling down, so who cares?
This is our history/science nook and sometimes seasonal table. It is directly across from our homeschool room.
You can find the wall timelines here. I love the large, visual timelines. They are great for showing how different events were happening all over the world at the same time. I got the History Through the Ages – Collection CD. It has the figures for all time periods. You can also buy them separately, on paper. We are always behind on our timeline figures.
I started these timelines a couple of years ago, after we had already covered ancient history, etc. Someday, we’ll have a timeline party and put up all the figures of people and events we’ve already studied. If you look closely, you can see that we also use American Girl Stickers
to put each doll we study on the timeline.
Our History/Science nook is a great place to display crafts and seasonal items we’ve found. Here’s Columbus’ ships and some acorns we found.
This is my fifth grader’s desk. She has a desk in her bedroom, too, and it’s full of writing and craft projects. She’s her mother’s daughter.
This is my senior’s desk. Sometimes I can’t believe we’re related.
This is an antique gumball machine. Because it’s so old, we’re not allowed to eat the gum out of it, it’s only for looks. And if you don’t remember this fact and get up on a chair to get a piece of gum out of it, you just might have to write “I will not eat the gum in the gumball machine” 45 times.
I separate my books according to subjects and time periods. Here’s Ancient history.
These are my homeschool mom books:
Other categories include: Homemaking, Poetry and Character, Bible, Science, English, Literature, etc. Each girl also has a shelf for their daily work, and some shelves hold paper, supplies, etc.
I am so blessed to have this beautiful space, but I’ve also done without a school room. Our old house was literally 1/3 the size of our current home and we did school at the dining room table. Here are some ideas for homeschooling in small spaces.

Hi Angela:
I’ve been reading your blogs and I am so impressed by your homeschool room!! I absolutely love it!! I noticed you homeschool mom books on the shelf and mine isn’t there so I thought I would email you about it. It’s called Home Is Where the Learning is: Homeschool Lifestyles from Homeschool Moms. I think you would really love this book as it has chapters of different mothers and what they have done to homeschool their children in different kinds of families. here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/Home-Where-The-Learning-Homeschool/dp/1460972430/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1391617493&sr=1-1
Just a little plug.
I love all the positive thoughts from your blog about family and homeschool. Keep up the great work!!
Hugs:

Beautiful room! I’d like to invite you to come share posts at somuchathome.blogspot.com. I host a weekly link up each Wednesday and you can link up any day of the week.
This is our last year homeschooling, but when I look at your room it makes me wish for the former days. I love the History corner!
God bless.
