If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been on an extended blogging break. Some things came up last summer… the kind of things you drop everything for, and this blog was the first thing to go.
Someday I’ll share a little more, but for now I’ll just say that there has been much sorrow, and slowly, gently, came much joy. And I’ve learned that I’m always closer to God when going through a storm. I grew up enough to truly embrace James 1:2-3: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. But I haven’t grown up enough to think I’m done growing, and I hope I never do.
I had to let go of Homegrown Mom to have enough room in my heart and mind to fully tend to the needs of my family. As we started to work our way through the muck, I was amazed by the abundance of creativity and peaceful contentment that was overflowing from my heart towards my family and home. I can truly say that I have been a better mom and wife for letting all this go.
I am prayerfully considering taking this blog back up, but on HIS terms, not mine. I want to continue writing, occasionally, but I’ll be honest: I still want to save the most creative, most fun, brightest parts of me for my husband and kids. This season I’m in, it’s only going to last 10 more years at best. Writing will always be here. So this might just become a static page, an archive of sorts. I’m honestly not sure yet.
Either way, I’ll be keeping Homegrown Mom around because someday I will need this space to unleash all that is in my heart! Someday, I’ll share all the fun projects we’ve done, the lessons I’ve learned, the inspiration God has given me to keep going strong as a mom. Someday, I’ll have free time to share about doing those fun, educational things, but these days, I’m using that time to do them. Someday… might be my favorite word.
I’ve missed you all. I’ve still read every email, and every comment, though I might not have replied.
If you have a minute, check out what my beautiful daughter has been doing with herself.
Then, finish this sentence for me. “Someday I’ll…”

Thank you for your words! I have kept up with my blog, but many times I have that similar stirring. I have to keep my family and home first, and oftentimes will “let the blog go” more often so I can keep my priorities first. There is a lot of pressure in blog world to become bigger and better, but your words are some of the more encouraging out there. Thank you and may God bless you and your family!

Someday I’ll … be a satisfied and content old lady, looking back on her life and family with pride, love and satisfaction.
Glad to hear you are OK. Oddly enough I thought of you this morning whilst taking a shower (the best thinking place in the world … lol) and hoped you were doing fine … thanks for answering me … ๐

Mom you are the greatest mom anyone could ask for! I know this summer was hard and I know you had to drop this for our family but I want you to know that I’m so glad you did, that I needed my mom and you are the most selfless person I know and at the drop of a hat you were there for me, your blog has always inspired me, but what you did for me, I don’t think you can top it ๐ I love you so much!

I just saw you today on facebook and it was like you’d come home from a long trip away. I so enjoy your heart and example. Thanks to being real. Maybe even one post a month? Whatever God shows you. Just know that you’ve been missed. Blessings to you and your family. It’s nice to know that we can put something good on the back burner for a season. Love you!!!

I recently had a similar stirring. I shut down my facebook page and have been focusing more on spending time with my family instead of my computer. Although we are planning on embarking on homeschooling our daughter again (we did through the first part of kindergarten and put her in public school but plan on taking her out next year) and another baby. Your post brought me to tears of joy knowing that we are doing the right thing by putting our families first. I was thinking about making a blog for all the things we do in homeschool but after seeing this I think I just want to enjoy the moments and maybe document later. After all like you said we have maybe 10 more years and at the end of it will we feel the “well done good and faithful servant” with the gifts/family that he has given us? Will our children look back with fond memories of fun moments we had with them or will the remember us “capturing the moments” to turn around and sit on the computer to share them with others instead of savoring them with them? Somethings I have been thinking about. It is soooo helpful to hear that others feel the same way. Thanks for sharing!

I just came across your blog. I was so blessed by this post and even by the comments of the other ladies about this post. I was feeling discouraged/guilty because I can’t seem to do it (i.e. be an good wife, mother, home-educator and homemaker PLUS an amazing crafter, blogger, and business builder, PLUS a thoughtful daughter, sister, friend, church member, PLUS etc, etc… all at the same time) And it seemed to me like “everyone” else, in the blog world anyway, is able to “do it all”. There is so much pressure for moms these days to capture the moments, share them, blog about them, and teach others how to do xyz, etc. Much of that is good to an extent, but, you are right, then we can actually end up missing out on the pleasure of those moments. I was so encouraged to see this post and know that there are other moms out there who choose “to put the blog down” (to whatever extent is necessary) so that we can enjoy the time with our children, and put our husbands and families first. We can build the blog/business later. But we will never get those moments, those precious early relationship-building moments back again. Thanks for the encouragement!!!

This is my first time visiting your blog, and I have to say that I admire your courage to let your blog take a breather while you focus on the priorities that do really matter. It’s good for our kids to see their moms making such decisions: it teaches them how important they are to us, but it also sets an example for them to put home and family first, too.
God bless.

Your words are a blessing. You are real and I really appreciate that. I am going through your blog by bits here and there. I find such encouragement. Thank you. Living to glorify God is my goal, it is what I want to pass on to my children and grandchild(ren).
Thank you for being a blessing to God and for that flowing over to us.

I just wanted to let you know I came across your blog a few weeks ago, and I keep coming back! You have such creative and Jesus-centered ideas. I am absolutely inspired by you! Whenever you choose to blog again….you have faithful followers waiting! ๐
I also wanted to tell you that one of the neatest things I’ve read on your blog is the last post where you set aside less important things and put your family first!
God bless you on this break!
