Do you have a budding writer, artist, graphic designer, or photographer in your home? Why not start your own Family Newsletter?
This fun idea for your family can help grow those skills or maybe just offer a fun, creative activity. Be sure to add this idea to your Family times book…it’s a great family night activity!
The first thing you need to do is come up with a catchy title. Use your family name and newsy words like: Update, Register, News, Scoop, Journal, Telegram, etc.
You can either print a newsletter by hand, or use your computer. Maybe you’ll assign an older child the job of editor, or you can set things up yourself and have your kids fill in the blanks. Either way, remember to give room for lots of creative freedom!
Rather than just handing out an assignment to write an article, sit down with your kids and brainstorm some great ideas for your newsletter. The more they are involved in creating it, the more fun they’ll have. Be open to new ideas and encourage input from all ages.
Here are just some of the things you can add to your news:
Photos
Upcoming events
Interviews with relatives
Illustrations
Poetry
Short stories
Narrative accounts of things your family has done recently. (Either written by your kids or dictated to you)
Recipes
Jokes
Letter from the editor
No one needs to read the paper besides your immediate family, but it could also be fun to send to grandparents or other relatives. You can send them in the mail, or if you use a computer, you can even email it off.
Let me know if you have a family newsletter, or some great ideas to share!
mamala says
This morning on the way home from the gym I pushed the wrong button and the tape player sprang to life. The next voice I heard was Jacob, at age 3, yelling, “Say sweetie-pie, Ang.”
I listened and cried all the way home.
That’s our family newsletter from days gone by.
