What is a Homegrown mom?  She might be a working mom or a stay-at-home mom, but either way, she sees her family as her first ministry and is proud to invest in them daily.  Really being home, being fully present and caring for your family is not easy.  Any mom will tell you, it’s more than baking cookies and wiping noses.

It’s an art.

The journey to your beautiful family portrait is often messy.  It takes time, and lots of it.  You’ll need creativity, discipline, and a heap of love for your work.  It is both joyfully exhilarating and fully exasperating at times.  I hope to provide you with some tools, inspiration, and encouragement for your home and family…your own work of art.

I am a wife and mom to three beautiful girls.  I’ve been a working mom, stay-at-home mom, stepmom, and homeschool mom.  I’m also the weird mom who dances in the car at stop signs and speaks with an accent to embarrass my kids, but hides in the corner at big parties.

This website may have only been a couple of months in planning, but in reality I have been preparing for this path my whole life.  Because I have been dreaming of being a Homegrown Mom for as long as I can remember.  I’ve been making lists, planning projects, naming my future children, and starting family Bible studies ever since I was singing along to Punky Brewster’s theme song.

Not that I’ve always been an artist at home.  I started out kinda rocky, and 13 years in I feel like I’m still getting the hang of things.  Because I’m dense like that.  No matter how many great systems I come up with, I am still domestically challenged.   No matter how many great Bible studies I read, I still struggle with losing my patience.  I confess, I’m an impatient slob at heart.  Just ask my husband.  He is actually a better wife than I am.  The important thing, though, is that I am learning and growing and…I love to share.

Like about how to bless your husband and children, and take time to nurture yourself, too.  About my own relationship with Christ and some insights God has revealed to me in my daily pursuit of Him.

Here are some of the things I’ll be sharing:

Following Jesus: The number one way to make it as a wife and mom without losing your mind.  Follow Jesus, day by day.  It isn’t as easy as it sounds, I know.  Here you’ll find devotions, inspiration, and tips on growing spiritually.

Homeschool: I am living proof that it takes a crazy person to homeschool their kids.  If you are a fellow crazy mom, you’ll find fun ideas, subject helps, unit studies, info on methods and learning styles and plenty of encouragement here.

Every Mom Needs a Break: That’s right, even you.  Learn to take time to renew, and find ways to refresh.  Ahhh.  I’m loving it already.

Homegrown Kids:  Discover ways to connect with your kids. Training them in the Lord is a big task!  We’ll look at simple ways to disciple your kids and what that means at different times in their day and lives.

A Wife to Rush Home to: My personal goal:  To be the kind of wife my husband can’t wait to get home to.  Need some support along the way?  You’ll find lots here, because I am not a good wife by nature.  In fact, without daily inspiration from the Lord, I would be a hot mess.  I’ve got a shoe-sized hole in my bathroom door to prove it. The least I can do is share with you all the insights that our merciful God sometimes grants me.

HG Links:  I am quite the little web browser these days.  I’d love to save you some time and share some links that will help you in your quest to be a Homegrown Mom!  ‘Cause then I won’t have to feel like such a slacker for being online.

I Wasn’t Always Homegrown: It’s true.  If you’re starting from square one and learning by mistake what it means to be a mom and wife, take heart.  I’ve been there, done that.  Sometimes, still there and doing that. Yet I have come a long way, and I’d love to share my story with you.

Creating Family Times: Traditions, routines, rituals. Family togetherness.  Some of my favorite things.  Here is one area where I absolutely rock.  I might be an impatient slob, but we all have our strengths, and this is mine.  I have too many ideas to implement, so I’ll heap them on you.  You’ll love it.

Workboxes: For all you homeschooling moms.  The workbox system has worked incredibly well for us.  Here, I’ll share some creative ideas to spice up your day-to-day routine and new ways to incorporate different learning styles in your boxes.

MamaMusings: Musings on my life as a mom.  Sometimes amusing.  Sometimes rather sad. Always straight from the heart.  Too cheesy?  Maybe. But then, I’m kind of cheesy like that.  It’s part of the deal here.

Domestically Challenged? So am I!  I’m sharing some tools that have helped me to be slightly less slobbish.  Most of the time, anyway.  Also, time-management and organization tips.  Lots of ideas for your home-keeping notebooks!

I’ll also be doing a monthly post, Shop With HG Mom, featuring fun, themed ideas from my Homegrown Mom Shop. Proceeds will go towards this site, our school, and my slipper habit. Not necessarily in that order.

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy!
