Confessions of a Bad Wife

in A Wife to Rush Home to

I like to share sweet little things I do for my husband here in order to encourage you to bless your hubby, too.

However.

Some days, I don’t feel like a wife to rush home to.

Instead, I feel like a spoiled brat. Like when I cry to get my way.

Or I feel like a lazy slob. Like when I forget to make the bed, even though I know it makes him happy.

Or I feel like an immature idiot. Like when I sigh and roll my eyes when he says something I disagree with, then feel proud of myself for biting my tongue.

Or I feel downright nasty. Like when I start saying how extremely tired, exhausted, tired, sick, tired, headachy, and tired I am an hour before bedtime. While wearing flannel pajamas. Hey, it happens.

Or I feel like an ungrateful turd. Like when I steal his gum. And his socks. And his good pens. Maybe I should look into this little habit.

I just thought you all should know this.

Shocking, right?

Angela,
It’s pure fun to read your articles. I can relate. I so want to be a good wife. But some days I just don’t. Today I feel pretty good, though. (Good grammar just doesn’t sound right in that sentence.) It’s HIM that’s in a mood. So today I can be a good wife, and give grace, and be kind and patient (because I’m NOT premenstrual)! he he

Thanks Tish! And yes, he definitely takes his turns at being the moody one, too! Too bad he doesn’t have a blog to tell you all about it. I’m guessing a “Confessions of a crappy husband” post wouldn’t be a good one for me to do. Lol.

I am also afflicted by the eye rolling and huffing and puffing syndromes and sometimes try to combat it with a combination of nodding and smiling. Unfortunately I suffer from a horrible case of sarcasm that seems to come though no matter how hard I try. Luckily I have a hubs who loves me for me. The light and the dark. He thinks the pouty me is cute and usually can find humor in the sarcasm that slips out. As for the bed, The official decree is “He who is last in it, makes it.”

Thanks for being so honest! Like Tish said… I really do want to be a good wife (and mommy) but some days I don’t even feel like wanting to try to want to be a good wife (if that makes any sense). It seems so hard sometimes and I see so many of my own failures. Those days (or the day after those days) makes me realize how thankful I am for the kind and patient husband God has given me! He puts up with so much!

I can steal his pens?

Not really.

I know what you mean. Even if I am not nasty on the outside, sometimes I am on the inside and that is just as bad. I am afraid that I have little hope of perfection here, maybe we will just get better. I hang on to that.

You can wear your husband’s socks? That is impressive. Do you ever put hot sauce in his cereal? Just wondering. And you don’t know me which is fun because – am I serious?

Actually, his socks are too big. But he has these lovely black ones that are thick enough they almost fit. They feel so good. The only drawback is I don’t own any black socks so he always catches me when I’ve stolen his… they’re hard to hide! And um, no to the hot sauce. My love language is food, and I would never mess with that!

I steal my husband’s socks too. And then I wonder why he gets mad when he can’t find socks at 5 AM and he’s running late for PT.
Huh?

And I’m not much of a bed maker. Or a dish washer. And I have to be reminded to swap the laundry…..

Is there a club for us? Or a support group? :)

Do the words Separated at Birth mean anything to you? I always wanted a twin.

Hmmm–I don’t think there is much to worry about here. Men are generally much easier to please than we are–as we tend to overthink, speculate, and get in our own way. Really, much thought is put into our supposed faults–and that is clear proof to me that major efforts are still being made to make these men happy.
And as for you, Ducky, I have never known a woman who invests so many minutes of her day to honing her wifedom into perfection.
Of course your babe does the same.
Which makes you perfect for each other amidst the imperfections.

It’s really bad when you dream that your husband did something to make you mad – and you wake up mad at the poor guy who didn’t really do anything. Not that I’ve ever done that or anything….

Oh, I’ve never done that, either! ;-) Poor guys.

Girl, I TOTALLY get where you are coming from! You made me laugh with the “ungrateful turd” part. I feel the exact same way sometimes.
